Whole school Active Maths morning
Year 6 have now completed their SATs and so are taking on project work in Maths. They came up with the idea of designing Active Maths sessions for each of the other classes. Active Maths is a programme that combines Maths through PE, it has proven to be a fantastic way of getting children active, yet consolidating maths concepts.
Each group of year 6 selected a Maths objective from their chosen year group. They then thought about an activity that would best delivier the learning objective. Their next challenge was to make the activity physical so it got the children moving around.
After a week of planning the year 6 groups all tried out the other Active Maths ideas and gave constructive critism and feedback so final changes could be made.
The actual morning was a huge success, all the children were actively engaged in the activities, they were learning a maths skill/concept yet working in teams, running, jumping, skipping, and shootballs.
Each class (including teachers) evaluated the sessions, providing year 6 with clear areas to develop should they repeat the activity again.
Well done-there are some great potential teachers amongst you!
